Androgenetic alopecia can affect people of any gender and age. Androgenetic alopecia can cause baldness in a person. The problem of androgenetic alopecia in men can also be related to many medical conditions. Medical conditions such as prostate cancerdiabetesobesityhigh blood pressure, and coronary heart disease can cause androgenetic alopecia.

Like men, some medical conditions can also cause baldness in women. The most common of these is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). A woman who is struggling with PCOS may feel the symptoms of androgenetic alopecia. Being overweight, irregular menstruation, and acne are symptoms of PCOS.

Genes

Many researchers believe that many genes also play an important role in androgenetic alopecia. The researchers found variation only in the AR gene. The AR gene gives instructions for making a protein called the androgen receptor. Whereas, androgen receptors make the body respond to D-dihydrotestosterone. In such a situation, when there is a change in the AR gene, the activity of androgen receptors in the hair follicles increases. Because of this, hair loss can start in men and women.
