New Delhi: Switzerland based construction equipment manufacturing company Kuhn Schweiz has designed the world’s largest electric vehicle – a 45-ton dump truck that lets you load up to 65 tons of cargo. Interestingly, the manufacturer claims that this e-dumper does not consume energy.

Media reports suggest that the vehicle produces more energy than it consumes during its daily work, which consists of transporting rocks to a cement factory, from the top of a hill to its base.

Known as Elektro Dumper, the gigantic EV is 9.36 metre long, 4.24 metre wide and 4.4 metre tall with a wheelbase of 4.30 metre.

“Like an all-electric vehicle, the e-dumper can harness power from braking. This process is known as regenerative braking. When the driver hits the brakes, it puts the electric motor into reverse. Electricity is then released which can be stored and put back into the battery,” as per a CNN International report.

The report also says, “The heavier the load, the stronger the braking meaning more electricity can be recovered. This makes the e-dumper hugely efficient, cheap to run and good for the planet.”

It further added that the battery system used in this EV alone weighs 4.5 tons and has the same storage capacity as seven Tesla S cars.

Additionally, the Elektro Dumper helps reduce up to a total of 130 tons of CO2 and 100,000 tons of diesel every year.

Currently, the company has deployed the prototype of the vehicle in a quarry near Biel, Switzerland.
